Featuring Our Followers: Karen “Style Smorgasbord”

At Spread, we thrive on connecting fashion lovers with their favourite brands. At the same time, we’re a social community that offers creative people a platform to meet, collaborate and inspire one another through the pursuit of new and innovating products and ideas.

It’s our goal to build on this camaraderie and inspire one another to support fellow fashion lovers! In order to achieve this, we’ve decided to collaborate with some of our followers. We want to learn more about you; what inspires you; what you love and where you see yourself in the fashion world.

Our sixth collaboration is with Karen, a brand new fashion blogger who’s excited to share her bright personality and infectious humour. I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: What/who inspires you in your writing?

Karen: I’ve been an avid reader of style bloggers for years now so there’s definitely a sprinkle of what I’ve read translated into my writing. That being said, I find some bloggers (especially style ones) quite dry so I am very much influenced by print magazines, opinion editorials and situational comedies because I love wit and humour and I think a chatty writer adds a bit more life, personality and spark into blogging. Music lyrics and late night tumblr crawlings really get my creative juices going. As far as favourite blogs go, I love Pink Peonies and Atlantic Pacific for their style, Gary Pepper for photography and Shine By Three for her writing.

Spread: What do you do for a living? Is it something fashion related?

Karen: I’ve actually just graduated from high school so in these four months I really want to concentrate on my blog and build my non-existent brand. What I’ve chosen to study in University will hopefully lead me to what I want to do career-wise, and its definitely not fashion related.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Karen: Fashion has been something that I’ve always had an interest in but never considered it to be something that I would pursue professionally in the future because the industry is so saturated, I really don’t know what I could bring to the table. However, I’ve always been a multi-tasked so who knows maybe I can juggle two things at once.

Our fifth collaboration is with Alyssa Picone, a fashion blogger from Chicago, IL. I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: What/who inspires you in your writing?

Alyssa: My blog was inspired by my step mom who gave me the great idea to share my love for food & fashion with the world. The combination of these two passions allows me to express my artistic side; whereas in my healthcare job does not. Knowing that one new recipe or outfit can inspire someone to try something new or jump out of their comfort zone makes all of the hard work and effort that goes into blogging worth it!

Spread: What do you do for a living? Is it something fashion related?

Alyssa: I am a Patient Experience Manager for a Hospital system and a dietitian. So it isn’t fashion related, but that doesn’t mean I don’t bring fashion into the work place. You can make any suit fashionable with the right accessories. A pearl tie or pink heels are the perfect touch.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Alyssa: In the future I see myself owning boutique in one of the amazing neighbourhoods of Chicago. I love having that personal shopping experience that you get in boutiques and I would love to have my own someday and share that experience with others! Also, I would love to stay in the healthcare world too!

Our fourth collaboration is with Jodi Olthuis, a fashion blogger and proud mother of High Heels and Tutus! I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: What/who inspires you in your writing?

Jodi: I find I’m always inspired most by things around me. Tutu is my biggest source of inspiration but truth be told I don’t write as much or as often as I would like to…

Spread: What do you do for a living? Is it something fashion related?

Jodi: I do work full time and I am in a fashion related industry.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Jodi: I have always and will always be passionate about fashion. Since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a fashion designer as I grew I realized I was better at styling than designing. I have always enjoyed colour and patterns and always being on trend without being trendy. Clothing is very personal for me. It’s a way of expressing who I am or how I feel without ever having to say a word. I feel I will always be involved with fashion in some capacity or another.

Our third collaboration is with Imke, a fashion blogger from Northwestern Germany. I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: What/who inspires you in your writing?

Imke: I think everybody is confronted by fashion everyday. It begins with choosing our outfit for the day in the morning. Moreover, we can also express ourselves by dressing up.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Imke: That is a good question. I really hope to reach a lot of people with my fashion blog and maybe do some professional writing. But I also have a more realistic wish, which really does not have anything to do with fashion. I have been dreaming of becoming a Doctor of Medicine for years. But if my grades aren’t good enough for that, I have to think of studying something else. Maybe some like Math or Chemistry :).

Our second collaboration is with Maria Wilson, an accountant from sunny Florida. I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: Who/What inspires you in your writing?

Maria: I gather inspiration from everywhere when I write, everything from nature to magazines to simply how I’m feeling. If I’m truly excited, I try to convey that not just through words, but by the colour choices I make in my fashion ensembles. When I’m feeling sad or discouraged, I try to write about something uplifting. I’ve started to post inspirational quotes on a regular basis. Sometimes all we need is to read a few kind words to get motivated!

Spread: What do you do for a living? Is it something fashion related?

Maria: I am an accountant for a marketing agency. Because accounting and finance isn’t all too creative, I started The Classified Chic as an outlet. It’s a place for me to document all the things I love, like food, design, and fashion.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Maria: I feel very fortunate to have had so many wonderful opportunities in my profession. My current job allows and encourages me to continue with my blogging. While I do enjoy what I do now, business analysis and accounting, I see myself delving more into marketing. I enjoy the things that I’m surrounded by working at a marketing firm. Everything from branding to social media strategies to photography catches my attention.

It’s our goal to build on this camaraderie and inspire one another to support fellow fashion lovers! In order to achieve this, we’ve decided to collaborate with some of our followers. We want to learn more about you; what inspires you; what you love and where you see yourself in the fashion world.

Our first collaboration is with Caroline Renae Olson, a fashion/lifestyle blogger from New York City. I was lucky enough to interview this bright young woman and gain some insight into her passion for fashion!

Spread: What/who inspires you in your writing?

Caroline: I’m fortunate to live in New York City, which is my main source of inspiration. Wall murals, fashion shows, vintage shops, even just the people on the street inspire me. I can spend hours in Barney’s or Bergdorf Goodman just admiring the garments and particularly the handbags. I also love looking at other blogs and apps like Spread for inspiration.

Spread: What do you do for a living? Is it something fashion related?

Caroline: In the past, I’ve managed a children’s salon/spa/boutique and had an online boutique of my own. However, I’m currently studying Fashion Merchandising Management at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Spread: Where do you see yourself in the future? Is it somewhere fashion related?

Caroline: Yes, I do intend for my future pursuits to involve fashion. It’s truly what I love to do, and I have a few business plans in the making, which I plan to pursue after I graduate from FIT.
