Rustic Maka - Skora Bath Salts

As I’m just finishing up a hectic filming schedule shooting both Heartland out west and Shadowhunters here in Toronto, I have made time when I’m home to take a 30-minute bath soaking in warm water and my favourite bath salts of all time. All natural dead sea salt added to my bath have more benefits than just relaxing and enjoying some “me time.” The minerals found in the bath salts help detoxify your skin, relieve stress and muscle ache, improves mood and helps with insomnia, all while infusing your bathroom with the most amazing scent that revitalizes your mind as well.

For that half hour with the lights off, candles lit, some music and my Skora Bath Salts (Citrus Gardens), I feel like I’m in my very own escape and I love every single minute of it. My favourite ladies at Rustic Maka have done it again! Thank you for creating these bath salts that I feel are safe to use, all natural, and truly so enjoyable!

Check out Skora Bath Salts and see all the other scents Rustic Maka has to offer. My favourites are Citrus Gardens and Sweet Lemonade!! Use two generous handfuls in your bath and keep your bath salts sealed properly and in a dry place!

Love,

How To Up Your Brow Game 101

full-eyebrows-are-in-_16001061_58994_1_14096901_500

What you’ll need:

  • Spooly brush or disposable mascara wand
  • Cuticle scissors
  • Angled/slant tweezers
  • Pointed tweezers
  • Brow shadow (taupe for blondes, brown range for everyone else)
  • Stiff brow shadow brush
  • Pencil (to line up the angles)

Product Recommendations: (Click below)

step1

Step 1: With a disposable mascara wand or spooly brush, brush the hairs upward to prepare for Step 2.

step2

Step 2: With a pair of scissors, trim any hairs that are longer than your brow shape.

step3

Step 3: With angled tweezers, pluck areas above and below the brows, grabbing a couple at a time.

step4

Step 4: With pointed tweezers, grab stubborn single hairs and shorter ones.

step5

Step 5: To determine where your brow should start, hold a pencil or make-up brush along one side of your nose. Where it crosses the inner corner of your brow, that’s where it should begin.

step6

Step 6: Now angle the pencil across the iris; that’s where the arch should begin.

step7

Step 7: Angle it to the end of the outer corner of the eye; that’s where the brow should end.

step8

Step 8: With those angles and lengths in mind, fill in the brows using light, feathery strokes as if you were drawing individual hairs.

Rustic Maka: Made In Nature

IMG_2648

As I’ve gotten older, what goes into my body or on it has become more and more important to me. There was a time when the word “organic” was so foreign to me, it had no impact on my purchase decisions at all. Now, those are exactly the type of words I look for when buying products, especially for myself.

An odd product to discuss is deodorant but it’s something we use everyday. After my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years ago, finding a natural, organic deodorant was a priority. Something that was not as easy as I had thought. That was until I came across Rustic Maka. Their patchy deodorants are amazing. They smell so great, last all day and are easy to throw in your bag if you need to use it later. My favourite scents are the “Sweet Lemonade” and “Calming Fields”. But they have so many others you definitely should check them out!!

How much are you spending on Fashion and Beauty?

Hi guys!

I came across an article the other day that absolutely blew my mind. Celebrities are spending a ludicrous amount of money on fashion and beauty every year, but when taken into context to how much they make, it doesn’t seem so bad! It’s suggested that as a rule of thumb, people should spend around 5% of their monthly income on clothes and 2-3% on beauty products.

Cue Celebrity Spending:

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer-Aniston-Street-Style

Spends over $70,000 per year on beauty products alone. Now given that she took home over $30 million last year, 5% of her annual salary would equate to $1.5 million! Sounds like Jennifer is living a lot more modest than it would seem. rolls eyes

Kim Kardashian

bag-fashion-futil-girl-kardashian-kim-kardashian-lollipop

Spends more than $27,250 per month or $327,000 per year on clothes. Given that Kim makes over $28 million a year , 5% of her annual salary would be $1.4 million.

These ladies are spending far less than 5% of their monthly income on fashion and beauty products, but let’s be serious, does anyone really need over a million dollars worth of clothes every year?

It really leads me to evaluate how much I’m spending on myself every month! What do you guys think? Is 5% of your monthly income a fair estimate? Who of you spends more/less than that?! We’d love to hear from you :)

A Day Of Beauty With Kaitlyn: Bare Minerals Bare Skin

One of the amazing makeup artists I get to work with brought this foundation to my attention while we were on set. She applied it on me that day and I ran out the following day to purchase it for myself. The new bareSkin brightening foundation by bareMinerals is amazing. It leaves your skin looking natural, fresh, bright, and has great build-able coverage if you want it. The formula is very thin and east to apply, as it goes on like a second skin.

This foundation has SPF 20 built into it, it’s a great price point and a little goes a long way so it should last you a while.

I wear Bare Latte 11.

A Day Of Beauty With Kaitlyn: Moisturizing Mask

image2 (1)

Much like winter, summer and the sun can definitely dry out your skin, so you should take extra care using daily sun protection and keeping your skin moisturized. My go-to face mask that I absolutely fell in love with this year is a fiber mask from Sephora. They are reasonably priced, easy to travel with and best of all, they work and show results.

My favourite sheet mask by Sephora is the Ultra moisturizing & brightening rose mask. You carefully unfold the mask from its package, place it on your skin for 15 minutes, remove it and gently massage the product into your skin. It will leave your face looking moisturized, plump, glowing and happy.

Ps. Since this is a sheet mask, it’s best applied while you lie down and take the 15 minutes to, not only do some goodness to your face, but also close your eyes and relax!! Think of it as a mini 15 minute spa :)
